Pastels are what we would buy at little corner stores kind of like fast food. They are just little thin crusted, deep fried pastries filled with hamburger, boiled eggs and green onions. I have played around making the dough lots of times and they turn out just fine, but I have started using egg roll wraps and they taste just as good, and it is so much easier and faster.
Fry some hamburger, season it the way you like it. Mix in green onions towards the end so they are just cooked a little. They put boiled eggs in the mix, I do too, but its not my kids favorite. I made some about a month ago and put cheese in with the meat. Its not Brazilian but it sure was yummy!! Spoon a little of the mixture in a wrapper. Have a little bowl of water so you can dip your finger in it. Trace your finger along the edge of the wrapper to help it stick together and fold the wrapper over its self. Make a bunch and have them ready to fry. Heat up your oil and fry them until they are golden brown. Eat them as a snack or part of a meal. They are really good and not hard to make.
1 pound of hamburger
season it with salt and pepper
green onions
1 pack of egg roll wrappers
oil for frying
bowl with a little water to help the wrapper stick
This is really easy to make and you will impress your Brazilian friends when you tell them you know how to make them!!
